The current postal disruption has caused us to miss our annual holiday mailing. And we were counting on these donations because we have committed to fund new bassinets, which are essential pieces of equipment for our Labour & Delivery Unit at Ajax Pickering Hospital.
We can only fund the last few remaining bassets with your help!
I know that this year has been harder than others, and that during this season much is asked of you, but I do hope that you will see your way clear to making a donation as soon as possible so our staff can care for the over 1,600 babies born every year at our hospital with the best equipment available.
As we’ve been marking this year major milestones in our hospital’s life, we have also been interested in how much health care has also changed over the last 70 years.
When the hospital first opened, mothers would deliver their babies with just the support of the doctors and nurses in the room, while fathers waited down the corridor for the good news.
And once born, babies would be whisked away to the nursery, where family members could wave at them through a window.
Aren’t we glad times have changed!
Today, labouring mothers can be supported by anyone of their choosing, and to immediately strengthen their bond, their newborns stay close to them.
That is why our Labour & Delivery Unit needs new bassinets… this essential piece of equipment helps bring mothers closer to their newborns, during the time when closeness matters.
These state-of-the-art models
- are easy and quiet to maneuver around the room, helping to not disturb either a sleeping mother or baby;
- have adjustable heights that enable ergonomic positioning for caregivers, as well as promoting mother-to-infant closeness, regardless of bed height;
- have drawers that open from both sides, bothering the infant as little as possible as well as it not mattering how the bassinet is positioned beside the bed or against a wall; and
- have baskets that tilt so that mother and baby can better interact.
When a new baby arrives in the world, don’t they and their family deserve the best comfort & care?
