When taking on the sad task of settling a loved one’s estate, it can be very overwhelming. And a lot of times you might even utter to yourself, why didn’t they just write that down or tell me?
Through their own personal experiences, the staff at Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation have taken to saying ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’.
That is why we would like to make it easier for you – or your kids? – when the time comes – by developing this Personal Information Booklet that can help with organizing all the information and paperwork.
The booklet can help centralize your information and perhaps remind you of some things to consider. And before we finalized this version, we showed a draft copy to people who have recent experience to get their feedback about information they wish had been easier to find.
Perhaps the most important message the Foundation can share is to update your Will!
It is very important that your wishes are carried out and your loved ones are cared for. If you don’t have one, the court process can get complicated as your estate is automatically distributed in accordance of the Succession Law Reform Act which many not be what you intended. If you can share your assets with only two groups, is it with loved ones, charity, or the government?
