The Ajax Mayor’s Gala Chair, Rose Collier, and Ajax Mayor, Shaun Collier, dropped by the Ajax Pickering Hospital to see the EIGHT bassinets the event has just funded!
After taking photos, Rose & Mayor Collier “delivered” the bassinets directly to the staff.
Since the Ajax Mayor’s Inaugural Gala in June 2019, they are proud to share that they have raised $1,000,000 net to support organizations making a meaningful impact in our community, thanks to their generous sponsors, guests and volunteers!
Each year, over 1,600 babies are born at Ajax Pickering Hospital, so these bassinets will get plenty of use!
Since the Ajax Pickering Hospital opened in 1954, there have been a lot of changes in health care.
Decades ago, mothers would deliver their babies with just the support of the doctors and nurses in the room, while fathers waited down the corridor for the good news. And once born, babies would be whisked away to the nursery, where family members could wave at them through a window.
Aren’t we glad times have changed!
Today, while in labour, mothers can be supported by anyone of their choosing, and to immediately strengthen their bond, their babies stay close to them once they are born.
That is why our Labour & Delivery Unit needs new bassinets… this essential piece of equipment helps bring mothers closer to their newborns, during the time when closeness matters.
These state-of-the-art models
- are easy and quiet to maneuver around the room, helping to not disturb either a sleeping mother or baby;
- have adjustable heights that enable ergonomic positioning for caregivers, as well as promoting mother-to-infant closeness, regardless of bed height;
- have drawers that open from both sides, bothering the infant as little as possible as well as it not mattering how the bassinet is positioned beside the bed or against a wall; and
- have baskets that tilt so that mother and baby can better interact.
When a new baby arrives in the world, don’t they and their family deserve the best comfort we can offer?
