Every Baby Deserves a Safe Beginning

“Your baby needs some extra care.”

Those are the words Danielle Tiano, Health Unit Coordinator in Ajax Pickering Hospital’s Women’s & Children’s Health Unit, never wants a family to hear.  In her recent letter to supporters, Danielle shared what it’s like to care for newborns during their very first hours of life. While most births are joyful celebrations, some babies need immediate treatment for jaundice – a common but potentially serious condition that cannot wait.

As Danielle explains, those first precious moments can quickly become filled with fear and uncertainty.

Will my baby be okay?

Will we need to be transferred

Will I be separated from my newborn?

That’s why Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation is asking our community to help fund two advanced bili light systems for our Women’s & Children’s Health Unit. These specialized phototherapy systems allow care to begin immediately, helping babies receive the treatment they need while keeping mothers and newborns together during those critical first days.
